Impact of other players/seat position/deck penetration on a Basic Strategy player
In a casino, some players get upset about the play of other players in the table. This article looks at the impact of other player’s actions on a Basic Strategy player. This also looks at the impact of deck penetration and seat position on a BS player. The results presented here assume that same number of rounds per hour is dealt in all scenarios.
The following chart shows the performance of a BS player in different situations. It compares the performance of a BS player playing solo versus playing at different seat positions in a full table. As the chart shows, it does not make any difference if he is playing alone or with other players in the table. The seat position does not make any difference either.

The following chart shows the impact of deck penetration on a BS player. As the chart shows deck penetration does not impact the performance of a BS player.

The following chart compares the performance of a BS player playing solo versus playing with different types of players in the table. When playing with the other player, the BS player is in seat number 4 and the other player is in seat number 7 (third base). The random player makes decisions randomly. As the results below show, only the player who Wong’s affects the performance of a Basic Strategy player.
Wonging is a method used by card counters. The player plays only when the count is favorable. When the count is not favorable, the player sits out of that round.

The only time another player affects the performance of a Basic Strategist is when the player is Wonging. BS player is other wise unaffected by the play of the other players. He is not affected by the deck penetration or seat position. But when more players are present in the table, typically less number of rounds will be dealt per hour. This will reduce the loss for a BS player.
